Die Fantastischen Vier

Pioneers of German hip-hop, Die Fantastischen Vier hold the honor of releasing the first entirely German-language rap album, Jetzt Geht's Ab, in 1991. Members “And.Ypsilon,”  “Smudo,” “Hausmarke” and “Thomas D,” came together in 1989 and quickly adopted the name Die Fantastischen Vier or Fanta4 as in "Fantastic Four." After releasing their debut themselves they were signed to Columbia, who released their breakthrough single, "Die Da!?!," in 1992. Exciting live shows and a steady stream of hooky singles kept the band in the charts for years. When a much more hardcore sound was in vogue for German hip-hop, the Fanta4 retained their loyal following with risk-taking moves like releasing the acoustic album Unplugged in 2000 and hiring the left-field producer Aphex Twin to remix their hit "Der Krieger." Core fans may have recognized them in the cinema as the members of the group were lending their voices to the German dub of the animated film Madagascar. All German music fans will recognize their hit singles such as “Lauschgift,” “4:99” and “Fornica.”  Their live show is, well, fantastic, and Air & Style is super stoked to have them on the line-up this year!

Left Boy

Hyped on the internet he is paving his way to become a new star. His name is Ferdinand Sarnitz, better known as Left Boy. His first video released on youtube in June 2011 “Jack Sparrow“ has more than 1,5 Mio hits. With his song “Outro“ the young Vienna based rapper made it to the top 50 of the “most favorite video releases“ on Youtube.

Mac Miller

Malcolm “Mac Miller” McCormick is a rising star in the hip hop community and rapidly becoming a household name. At 19-years-old, this MC has gone from a local sensation to selling out venues across the United States. A multitalented musician with a distinct Golden Era delivery, a great ear for instrumentals, and a positive message, Mac has been focused on paving his own path in music.Musically gifted, Mac had taught himself to play piano, drums, guitar and bass by the age of six. Influenced by artists such as Big L, Lauryn Hill, The Beastie Boys, Outkast, and A Tribe Called Quest, he began cultivating his own art of rhyme and started to develop a reputation for delivering jaw-dropping freestyles in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA.

By 2009 Mac had released his first two recording projects, “The Jukebox” and “The High Life,” generating a buzz both in the streets and across the Internet. By 2010, Mac’s musical abilities became undeniable. After signing with independent record label Rostrum Records, Mac released his debut album “K.I.D.S.” The album, which features his songs, “Knock Knock” and “Nikes On My Feet,” quickly grew in popularity with his fans on iTunes and on YouTube, where his videos have received over 20 million views. With Mac’s recent successes he has received acclaim from his large fan base as well as industry publications. His music is a mainstay on popular Hip Hop sites such as Nahright, Rapradar, and TheSmokingSection. Mac was also featured in XXL Magazine’s coveted Show and Prove section, and has been called “The Steel City’s Newest Rap Posterboy,” by Complex Magazine.

In 2011, Mac’s star will continue to rise, with his widely popular “Incredibly Dope Tour,” and the release of his highly anticipated album, “Best Day Ever.” With the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette describing his music as, “Catching the Nation by Storm,” few can argue with The Source: “The sky is the limit for this Pittsburgh native.”
