Sexpod

 Homepage

Sexpod is the ultimate power trio. Their trance-inducing boogie is so mystifiyingly potent that it defies explanation. They transform and transmute energies previously unknown to modern man ... and not in some femme withy mumbo jumbo way, dude. Sexpod is a modern band of female superheroes, each of whom personifies the very instrument through which they transmit their cosmic headbang love vibe thang.

Tia Sprocket was born to play the drums. She's as much a tasteful diva of percussion as she is a powermad primitive pounding the skins. To experience Tia display her massive musical talent is to be truly mesmerized.

Alice Genese puts the happy back into rock'n'roll. The almighty bass groove is in the more than capable hands of this bouncing bundle of good time energy. Sporting a huge and warmly genuine smile, Alice shimmies and sashays herself into a boogiefied trance as she slaps out some of the most soul-satisfying bass lines ever to emanate from a four-stringed instrument.

Karyn Kuhl stand at the apex of this compelling rhythmic triangle, laying the icing on the cosmic cake with thick gobs of power chords and delicate decorations of delay. Emotive to the point of transcendence, Karyn's onstage presence has a shamanistic quality that hasn't been seen in rock'n'roll in quite a while. At key points during live performance of their tour-de-force, „Waterfall", I have reveled in the knowledge that the spirit of Jimi Hendrix is alive and well inside a skinny white girl from Hoboken.

The aptly title Goddess Blues, a full-length collection of Sexpod's finest, makes its debut in early '97. Each tune shines on its own. From the shimmering luminescence of „Emily" to the in-your-face glare of „Drunk In A Dress," Sexpod delivers a stellar array of gut level songwriting at its best. This music has depth. The lyrical content alone is an overflowing dish of bittersweet earcandy, complete with vocals hot enough to melt the whole damn thing down into a luscious lava. The gyrating bump and grind of the gals' slammin' and riffin' creates a neverending succession of hooks that will satisfy all of your hard rock desires.

Karyn Kuhl, Alice Genese, and Tia Sprocket are rapidly emerging as musical visionaries who will lead the tribes into the 21st century. The good folks at Slab Recordings have been not only smart enough to sign them, but nice enough to capture this astounding triad of sonic vibrations for your listening ecstasy.
